The Four Chiefs:
CHIEF JOSEPH, a NEZ PERCE, grew up in Oregon's Wallowa Valley. June 1877 Joseph lead his people to Idaho in peace. His given name was Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-keht, Thunder Rolling Down the Mountain.
SITTING BULL, a HUNKPAPA SIOUX was not only known as a great warrior but a skilled hunter as well. His Native American name was Tatanka Iyotanka which refers to a buffalo bull that is sitting on its haunches.
GERONIMO, a CHIRICAHUA APACHE, was as famous figure as they come in the history of the West. His given name was Gayathlay, or One Who Yawns.
RED CLOUD, an OGLALA SIOUX WAR CHIEF, wanted nothing more than to see his people flourish and to see their rights justly protected. His given name was Makhpiya -luta, Scarlet Cloud. He was also known by Mahpiya-Sha, meaning Red Cloud.
